Building the Bridge While You’re Walking On It

This is the year! This is the year that The Irreverent Sales Girl makes her big splash, becomes a REAL business, and places her mark on the world.

I will be building the bridge while I’m walking on it and I’d love to keep all of you who are interested “in-the-loop” about how we’re doing and what we’re up to!

So many of you have been a part of this journey. Some of you have posted your thoughts and insights. Some of you have shared your knowledge and advice. Some of you have done work on my site, my marketing, my business plan.

Some of you may be wondering……what is the Irreverent Sales Girl working on these days? How is the business going? Is she still around?

SO, I am designing a newsletter that I will send out once a month. It is called:

Focus Focus Focus

I met an extraordinary man. His name is Jonny Imerman. He founded Imerman Angels – his organization connects a cancer survivor with a cancer patient who is the same age, gender, and has the same cancer that the other survived.

That’s all his organization does. If a person has cancer, they can go to Imerman Angels and be connected with someone who is their own age, their same gender, and has survived the exact same cancer that they have now.

It is an UNBELIEVABLY powerful program! Can you imagine having a buddy who has gone through the EXACT same stuff that you are now dealing with and can talk you through all of it – especially when you are scared out of your wits? If you’re a guy in your 20’s, you’re talking to a guy in HIS 20’s who survived your diagnosis. If you’re an older woman, you’re connected with an older woman. BRILLIANT!!!

He has a network of thousands of survivors across the world. He is completely sponsor supported and has never asked for money or a grant. He has a small staff and, from what I can tell, they are sustainable.

Know why?

Because he ONLY does ONE thing. He partners with American Cancer, Livestrong, and the others – so he can connect people to organizations that provide other services to cancer patients.

But, Imerman Angels ONLY DOES ONE THING! Connect cancer patients with cancer survivors and caregivers.  And he does it well.

Did you notice how I could tell the whole story in a very short period of time – and you can fully get it?

Do you have this kind of focus? Are you laser clear with what you provide and what you offer? If you are, then location location location becomes obvious and falls right into place.

Danielle LaPorte does not know that I am re-posting this. I don’t know her, but BOY would I like to! Ready. It’s pretty long, but it is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ON!!! Frankly, I wish I’d said it myself!

the grand pep talk: decide to rise  (refer to this when in doubt, or sick & tired.)

I’m all for mental health days. And gentleness. And I think the world should take the month of December off. And for the love of God, a 4 day work week would revolutionize the collective human spirit and thusly, healthcare. But this pep talk isn’t about taking it easy, this is about another form of self care: doing whatever it takes.

Just got dumped? Lace up your runners and move your body. Under the weather? Go in to work any way, wearing your favorite sweater. Up to your earrings in deadlines? Go cheer on your friend. Show up at the bake sale. Call your mother. Crying before show time? Put some tea bags on your eyes. Say a prayer. Enter stage left. Push. Turn up the volume. Go hard. Go harder. Re-prioritize your aches and pains. Infuse your sensitivities with courage. Tell fear to fuck right the fuck off. Devote to Done.

There are soul-justified reasons to cancel. There are times to just stop. This isn’t one of them. Keep going. Show up. Full on. Full tilt. Full out. Decide to be one of those people who pull it off.

Do what you say you’re going to do. Don’t let us down. Decide to rise.

Why decide to rise? Not for the reasons you might think. In fact, these are the reasons that will make you sick and tired:

Do not rise out of obligation. Do not rise because of feared consequences. Do not rise because you think being tough makes you smarter (it doesn’t.)

Decide to rise because you want to expand — your being, your life, your possibilities.

Decide to rise because super powers are meant to be activated and applied in everyday life.

Decide to rise to explore your place in the universe.

On the other side of deciding to rise is illumination, ecstasy, insight. And the angel of your strength is there waiting, smiling, applauding, with a goblet of endorphins for you. Drink up.

When you transcend circumstances you get special privileges. You get evidence that you are indeed amazing, and irrefutable proof that what your heart and mind choose is what matters. And you get the deep knowing that life wants you to win.

Decide to rise.

Lean in. Listen up. Closely. It’s your soul speaking and she says, Get UP! I need you. I want you. I am you. Choose me. Lean in. Listen up. Closely.

Decide to rise.

You know how I hate warmed-over porridge?

Still sometimes the oldies ARE the goodies. Today I am lucky enough to have friends who remind me that SOMETIMES people won’t like the way I do things. SOMETIMES I may put some people off with my opinions and my attitudes – and even, yes even, my success!

It’s good to have friends who will remind you to NOT LET THE TURKEYS GET YOU DOWN!!! If you have people clucking along your path, you don’t need to make a Thanksgiving dinner out of them, but you don’t have to listen either.

YOU know your path. YOU know your heart. If you listen closely enough, you even know your HEART. Follow it.

A dream that will take all the love you can give

OK.

I know it’s corny, but that song from The Sound of Music – “Climb Every Mountain” – turns out, it’s right on the money! Look it up!

But, the most important thing to remember…..when you’re moving through molasses…..working to get to your dream…..remember, it’s going to require every fiber of your being – the big dream. Often, it’s easy to get trapped in, “Well, this life is just great enough, I’ll take it” (and that’s valid).

But, the BIG ONE takes all of you, leaves nothing wanting — and the Universe will align in mysterious ways when you give it all you’ve got. Anyone tells you something else? Well, don’t take any wooden nickels!

I know you’ve got it in you, or you wouldn’t be reading this right now!
